Rhode Islanders and Bostonians

There's a couple who read this blog..I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for my upcoming trip to Boston. Flight tickets to Boston Logan are crazy expensive and it seems a lot cheaper to fly into Providence, RI. Now, renting a car from there to Boston is NOT an option. (We're staying in downtown Boston and will not use the car over the weekend).

So, my question is, can I get on a Peter Pan/Greyhound bus easily from Providence Airport or the commuter rail, or is there a shuttle type thing to take me into either downtown Boston or even Logan Airport? Has anyone done this?

Your input, anecdotal advice and any info will be much appreciated! Thanks! :)

Hey there!

I've never done the providence-boston trip but I hear its easy enough to do it. I am not sure about the bus service. But I know that the amtrak (from nyc to bos) stops in providence. (Should cost you 15ish). you could check their website.

Also www.mbta.com has info about the boston area subway system - so be sure to check it out. They have a pretty good trip planner that you might find useful. Anyway, i put a quick search on the trip planner
and found that there is a commuter rail that brings you to Boston from Providence.

Good luck and do let me know if you have any other questions!

have fun,

Bus is easy from the airport, but will be expensive compared to commuter rail. Both modes have adequate frequency.

(Don't know if you are the same)

i will look into those. i guess i'm mostly concerned if the bus/commuter train is easily accessible from the airport..will explore

the amtrak connects providence to boston in 45 minutes, but i don't think it goes to providence airport. otoh, i think peter pan does, so i'd give them a call and see. happy travels!

I would suggest the NYC-BOS bus service. The Chinatown bus is cheap but the downside is that you'll have to go all the way to Chinatown in NY. You could also book Greyhound/Peter Pan tickets online for a similar price ($38 round trip). The journey's around 4.5 hours long; catch the bus at the Greyhound terminus in Times Square and get off at South Station, which is very close to downtown Boston.
