Heights of cheapness

I have to pay in order to select my seat before hand now while booking a flight. $20 (each way) For an exit row seat. $6 (each way) for reserving any other seat- even a crappy 3rd-last row middle seat? On AIRTRAN? Give me a break!

welcome to the age of nickel-&-diming in the name of high fuel costs.

be thankful they dont charge you for the seat-belts, or the air filtration, or, as a budding management-consultant friend suggested the airlines should do: "a tire tread wear-out surcharge (charged twice, of course, for landing and take-off).

sigh. i mean they've hiked up the overall fares, isn't that enough? and these stupid add ons are ludicrous. this is going to make me a really bitter traveler now.

Well TGFI, I think its quite incredible that we can still think about travelling all around the world. Most of the tickets I buy are economy class tickets purchased 1-2 months in advance: this class of tickets are actually sold by the airlines at a loss. The idea is that even though they are sold at loss, they help in reducing the 'overall loss'. I am quite sure that the prices of airlines tickets are going to go up even more - there is unfortunately no way out. The airlines business is very tough one, running on extremely low margins.

you know what sd, its hard for me to sympathise with the industry, when its run in the most user-unfriendly fashion: be it prices (they are no more cheap like they used to be). extremely customer-unfriendly service, unexpected and unexplained delays, cancellations, i don't see what i should pay competitive prices for.

and honestly, even if to cut losses, they need to come up with a better business model than this kind of stupid price-tagging on seats and soda.

You do feel very strongly about this, don't you :)

I agree with you - there is absolutely no reason to have uncustomer-friendly service; and stupid price-tagging is a bit like cheating, since it makes the prices appear lower than they really are. As for the delays and cancellations....thats another matter...BTW, just in case you are wondering - I do not work for any airlines company:) I just happened to have read some literature.....

haan main wahi sochne lagi thi. :) yeah this is like cheating. just cheap tactics- if it costs more to fly they're justified in charging higher fares, but why this?

yeah, i do feel quite strongly.:)
