Wanted: recos for resorts in Ooty/Coorg

So the place we initially reserved for our honeymoon just told us they are not ready and are still renovating- so had to cancel our reservation!

Anyone with good recommendations of resorts / guest houses in and around ooty/coorg etc? First hand good experiences or definite NO-NOs from experience??? We're looking for a casual place, some hiking opportunities in and around the area-.and a nice cosy clean cottage type accommodation, good service, not rustic...

Thanks in advance, B would kill me if he knew I am asking out here, but he will never know. :p

Woodway was rather nice. Even if this information is somewhat dated. Congratulations!

hmm, I guess im being a little childish, but the very mention of ooty, munnar, kodaikanal brings those nauseating mithun movie memories and I also happen to have a snobbish kinda attitude about these places.

But yes, I guess the company matters more than the place. Our honeymoon was a weekend getaway. we left friday and were back on monday - he drove all the way and we ended up spending a very different honeymoon than wat was planned, all thanks to the religious inlaws who insisted we visit tirupathi and not go on a honeymoon. (bah) hope you have better luck. if you do want to go to ooty, it wont take you like a day to go over all the places of interest. So I would suggest, you could go to nearby places, maybe bandipur forest or nagarhole .... or just take it lazily and just visit one place at a time to make it last a 2 -4 days.

okay, too much of sermonising, me off for now. total good luck with all your plans :)

sigh- I managed to thwart my mom's tirupati idea. she was also starting to hint that we should go there- i said we'd do it when i returned to india for good eventually. am thankful that went well.

we've settled on coorg- and will hire a cab with driver because yeah- there's no way i want to spend 5-6 hours listening to B sit and swear in the drivers seat. :)

lols! coorg is cool. its again one of those - see all in 2 days kinda places, so take ur time and be a little lazy on ur honeymoon. :)

we wanted to drive ourselves, cos we did not want to traumatize anyone else with our really bad himesh styled singing. its also good, cos you can just stop and play the fool without having anyone look over you and make you self conscious. we ended up eating at a hut/home in a village on the way ... picked up wild fowers and did those kinds of things which we used to, when we were 5. so swearing was good in between. :D

anyways, I guess im getting too much into my honeymoon, rather than letting you plan yours. :)

btw, have been reading the blog, since a year or so, havent commented much, until now.

HiTGFI, I have been a lurker on your blog for a long time now and relate a lot to your writing as my husband is doing his PhD.

I recently read that the blogger Kiruba had visited a homestay in Coorg with his family. Maybe you should check out this link and talk to the owners of the place and see if theyhave recommendations suited for a honeymooning couple.
